LABEL INTELLIGENCE

Vollherbst launches Label Intelligence

14. August 2026

New business unit combines Consumer Intelligence, structured validation and modern label production

The demands on packaging are changing. Brands have to decide faster, take more channels and target groups into account, and at the same time ensure that packaging not only convinces in design and technique, but achieves the intended effect in the market.

With Label Intelligence, Vollherbst is creating a new business unit that starts precisely here. New technologies open additional possibilities for brands and their creative partners to understand packaging impact earlier and to underpin important decisions more soundly.

At the same time, Vollherbst is profiling its historic core competence, Label Production, even more clearly. For customers, this creates two independent areas of competence that can be used separately – and that work together where this creates additional value.

Understanding packaging impact earlier

Label Intelligence is aimed at brands and their creative partners when important packaging decisions are to be prepared or reviewed – for existing packaging as well as for relaunches and new developments.

To this end, Vollherbst combines Consumer Intelligence, new technologies for structured validation and more than a century of experience with high-quality labels and packaging. At the centre is the question of how packaging affects relevant target groups and whether it supports the intended brand positioning and differentiation.

This gives brands and agencies additional foundations for decision-making before major investments in production and market launch. Creative experience and brand understanding are not replaced, but complemented by a further layer of evidence.

The first Label Intelligence pilot projects with brands from the wine and drinks sector are already under way. From the fourth quarter of 2026, Vollherbst will open Label Intelligence step by step to further customers in Germany and Europe.

A home for Label Intelligence

With THE CUBE in Stellenbosch and the CUBE Studio in Endingen, Label Intelligence is given two places of its own. Here, brands and their creative partners can have existing packaging, relaunches or different design directions examined in concrete terms. Label Intelligence analyses how these work on the relevant target group in the respective brand, category and competitive environment, and whether they support the intended brand positioning and differentiation. The chosen direction can then be aligned early with material, finishing, technical feasibility and commercial viability. Depending on the project, these services can also be used digitally and across locations.

Label Production becomes clearer and more focused

In parallel with building Label Intelligence, Vollherbst has consistently expanded its industrial base. Since 2020, more than seven million euros have been invested in production and finishing technologies.

The Endingen site is the industrial centre of Label Production. Modern digital and conventional printing technologies meet high-quality finishing processes and specialised Label Engineering here.

With the new structure, Label Production is aligned even more consistently with the requirements of industrial customers: technical consulting, reproducible quality, flexibility, efficient processes and reliable scalability. The stronger focus at the same time creates the basis for using existing technologies more consistently and further developing industrial performance.

From insight to industrial reality

Particular strength arises where both areas are meaningfully connected. Insights from Label Intelligence can flow directly into technical decisions; at the same time, Label Production brings the industrial perspective into demanding packaging projects at an early stage.

The roles remain clear: brand management, creative competence, Label Intelligence and industrial execution each contribute where their particular expertise is required.

“Packaging development is changing on two levels at once: we now have new ways of understanding how packaging affects consumers. At the same time we have production technologies that allow ideas to be realised more distinctively and flexibly than ever before. In our view the strongest solutions arise where brand expertise, creative quality, Consumer Intelligence and production knowledge work together in a meaningful way,” says Matthias Vollherbst, owner.

Label Intelligence creates additional decision-making foundations for brands and their creative partners. Label Production realises packaging with engineering expertise and industrial precision.
